Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S is a corticosteroid that is prescribed for patients suffering from uveitis, any eye injury, radiation, or chemical burn that may result in an inflammatory reaction in the eye. Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S is not prescribed to patients suffering from viral or fungal eye infections. Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S is in liquid form that comes packaged in a travel friendly plastic bottle.

1-2 drops of Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S is to be applied once every 2-4 hours. The dosage can be increased to two drops every 2 hours or reduced depending on the patient’s stage of illness and any adverse effects felt by the patient. Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S must be applied with clean hands, make sure the eyedropper or tube tip doesn’t touch the surface of the eye or any other surface. It is imperative that the tip of the dropper/tube and hands are always clean before the application of Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S. Make sure to shake Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S container well before each use and to replace the cap of the Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S immediately after each use.

Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S is not prescribed to patients under the age of 2 years and is prescribed to pregnant and lactating mothers only if necessary and under the supervision of a doctor. Patients are advised to not stop administering Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S once they see an improvement in symptoms without consulting an ophthalmologist as that may lead to a return of irritating eye symptoms.

How Does Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S Work

Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S perfectly combines a corticosteroid (dexamethasone) and an antibiotic (tobramycin) in an eye ointment used to fight off bacterial eye infections. With the combination of these two chemical groups, Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S can prevent the multiplication of the bacteria and reduce and eye swelling at the same time.

How To Use Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S

Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S must be applied with clean hands, make sure the eyedropper or tube tip doesn’t touch the surface of the eye or any other surface. It is imperative that the tip of the dropper/tube and hands are always clean before the application of Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S. Make sure to shake Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S container well before each use and to replace the cap of the Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S immediately after each use.

To apply Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S, pull the head back slightly, then the lower eyelid is pulled down to create a small space where a drop of solution from the tip is applied. Close eye for a minute or two after Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S application, while applying pressure at the inner corner of the eye (area near the nose) to prevent solution from draining into the nasal and/or oral passages. Do not rub or blink after applying eye drops. If the recommended dosage is more than one drop of Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S then the above steps are to be repeated.

Before applying any other eyedrop that might be prescribed along with Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S, the patient is to wait 5-10 minutes. Excess of Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S may be wiped clean with a clean tissue or cloth. Dosage

Adult Dosage

A drop or two is prescribed to patients aged 18 years and above; to be administered every 2-4 hours. The dosage can be increased or reduced depending on the patient’s stage of illness and any adverse effects felt by the patient.

Child Dosage

There isn’t enough evidence to suggest that Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S is safe or unsafe for patients aged 18 years and below, therefore, it’s advised to consult a physician or ophthalmologist before prescribing Prens 1.0% (5ml) Drop 1 ‘S.

Elderly Dosage 

A drop or two may be prescribed to patients aged 65 years and above. The dosage may be altered after a few days or weeks depending upon the severity of the patient’s symptoms and any comorbidities the patient might be suffering from.

Pregnancy Use and Lactation
