Scabfree 5% Lotion 60 ml belongs to the class of drugs known as insecticides (scabicides and pediculicides).  Scabfree 5% Lotion 60 ml is particularly used to treat infestations due to lice (insects) and mites (Arachnida) on the skin and scalp. Also, the drug is prescribed commonly as the first line of action when “Scabies” is suspected. It is safe for use in children (2 years and above) and adults alike, regarding its use in elderly patients (> 65 years), doctors’ advice must strictly be followed. 

Scabfree 5% Lotion 60 ml is a synthetic pyrethroid acting as a pesticide against a number of pests like lice, ticks, fleas and etc. It has proven to be toxic to the nervous system of lice and also potentially causes respiratory failure in mites by delaying depolarization mechanism and blockage of transmission of nerve impulses.

Scabfree 5% Lotion 60 ml is available in form of cream and lotion meant for external use only. Cream /Lotion is gently massaged over the affected area as directed by your doctor, usually, as a one-time application once or at times twice about a week apart. Scabfree 5% Lotion 60 ml works by acting on the cell membranes of these pests by deranging the positively charged sodium ions influx and subsequent depolarization of the cells. This disturbed polarization cycle leads to its neurotoxic effects in lice and respiratory collapse in mites, thereby killing the pests. 

How to use Scabfree 5% Lotion 60 ml

Scabfree 5% Lotion 60 ml is available in form of cream and lotions meant for external use only to be applied topically with clean hands after washing the area properly and drying afterward. Scabfree 5% Lotion 60 ml is safe for use in adults and children above 2 years of age. Elderly patients can also be treated with Scabfree 5% Lotion 60 ml after the doctor’s advice, due to potential side effects.

Lotion

  • Scabfree 5% Lotion 60 ml is used externally only, start with shaking the bottle thoroughly. The lotion is applied to the scalp for lice infestation and itching associated with scabies.
  •  In order to use Scabfree 5% Lotion 60 ml wash your hair and scalp with or without shampoo (it is noteworthy,  use of conditioner must be avoided). Dry your hair with a towel (do not blow-dry).
  •  Start applying Scabfree 5% Lotion 60 ml to your head and hair while protecting your eyes and face. Make sure to cover all of your scalp, hair from the front hairline to the nape of your neck and from behind ears.
  •  Scabfree 5% Lotion 60 ml is left on your head for about 10 minutes, you may cover your head with a shower cap to protect yourself from medication. 
  • Rinse off your scalp and hair with warm water, ensuring no medication remains.
  • Pat dry your hair with a towel, a lice comb with very fine teeth must be used to remove any remaining louse or eggs in the hair. 
  • One application is usually sufficient, but Scabfree 5% Lotion 60 ml can be reapplied after 1 week if any lice remain. 

Cream 

  • Scabfree 5% Lotion 60 ml is applied on the skin from head to toes in case of scabies. Wash and gently pat dry your skin afterward.
  •  One tube of Scabfree 5% Lotion 60 ml is sufficient for one-time application on the entire body. Start by gently massaging the cream from the head (including the temples, forehead, behind the ears, and neck) to feet including soles.
  • Careful attention must be given to the area between the fingers, and under nails, flexor surfaces (elbows, knees), any kind of skin fold for example under the breasts, waistline, etc.
  • Wash your hands after application, an additional amount can be reapplied if Scabfree 5% Lotion 60 ml gets wiped off from any part.
  •  Scabfree 5% Lotion 60 ml must stay on your body for a minimum of 8-14 hours. Make sure to shower after the prescribed time and change into clean clothes.
  • Previous clothing, bedding, toilet seats, and any personal use items must be washed with warm water and disinfected

Adult Dose

30 grams (1 tube) of 5% cream– Sufficient to cover the entire body

Maximum Safe Dose (One application) – 60 grams of 5% cream

Pediatric Dose

2-4 years – ¼  tube of 30 grams of 5% cream

4-12 years – ½ tube of 30 grams of 5% cream

Elderly Dose

  • Dryness- apply a moisturizer to the skin and wait for 10-15 minutes after which apply Scabfree 5% Lotion 60 ml onto the skin. This will prevent skin from getting dry and flaky.
