Modton 25mg Tablet 10 ‘S belongs to a group of medicines called antidepressants that treat depression. Modton 25mg Tablet 10 ‘S contains the active ingredient agomelatine. Modton 25mg Tablet 10 ‘S is used in adults to treat depression. Depression is a broad symptom that includes continuously disturbed moods that hinder everyday life activities. Symptoms include sadness, feelings of worthlessness, loss of interest in favorite hobbies, sleep disturbances, anxiety, and weight change. Modton 25mg Tablet 10 ‘S aims to reduce and gradually remove the symptoms responsible for depression.

How does Modton 25mg Tablet 10 ‘S work?

Modton 25mg Tablet 10 ‘S is a melatonergic agonist (MT1 and MT2 receptors) and 5-HT2C antagonist. Modton 25mg Tablet 10 ‘S resynchronizes circadian rhythms in circadian rhythm disruption. Modton 25mg Tablet 10 ‘S increases noradrenaline and dopamine release specifically in the frontal cortex.

How to use Modton 25mg Tablet 10 ‘S?

Modton 25mg Tablet 10 ‘S is taken once daily orally at bedtime. After two weeks of treatment if there is no betterment in symptoms dose may be doubled by your doctor. Any dose increase should be made according to the patient’s benefits/risks which are based on strict LFT monitoring. Liver function tests should be carried out in all patients before treatment initiation. Treatment should not be started if transaminases exceed 3 times the upper limit of normal.

Patients with depression should be treated for at least 6 months to make sure that they are free of symptoms. Modton 25mg Tablet 10 ‘S is for oral use. You can swallow Modton 25mg Tablet 10 ‘S with water. Modton 25mg Tablet 10 ‘S can be taken with or without food.

Dosage

The recommended dose of Modton 25mg Tablet 10 ‘S is:

• one tablet (25mg) at bedtime
• in some cases, your doctor may prescribe a higher dose (50mg), i.e. two tablets to be taken together at bedtime. 

Pregnancy and lactation

• Consult your doctor before taking Modton 25mg Tablet 10 ‘S in pregnancy. There is a lack of sufficient data about the safety of the drugs during pregnancy.
