Gen-M 40/240mg Tablet 8 ‘S is prescribed to patients suffering from an active malarial infection.Gen-M 40/240mg Tablet 8 ‘S is a combination of two drugs,both of which are from the same chemical group known as antimalarial drugs.Malaria is transmitted through mosquitoes (plasmodium falciparum) and is prevalent in many countries.The virus once transmitted can infect human blood cells or the liver.Gen-M 40/240mg Tablet 8 ‘S is prescribed to eliminate viruses from infected blood cells.Gen-M 40/240mg Tablet 8 ‘S is not used for prevention of malaria.

Two tablets daily are usually (commonly) prescribed.Gen-M 40/240mg Tablet 8 ‘S is to be taken regularly with food,preferably at the same time each day to help the patient remember their daily dose.The patient ought to discuss with their physician before ceasing intake of the medicine even if the patient is no longer suffering from common symptoms of malaria,as ceasing the intake of the medicine has reported in cases of reinfection.

How To Use Gen-M 40/240mg Tablet 8 ‘S

Gen-M 40/240mg Tablet 8 ‘S is meant to be ingested orally (by mouth) with food or milk for a 3 day period.Gen-M 40/240mg Tablet 8 ‘S can be ingested whole or crushed and sprinkled on food or mixed in with water or infant formula.

If you miss a dose of the medication, make sure you take it as soon as possible on that same day. If you don’t remember you missed the dose until the next day, do not double the dose and take your medication as per schedule as that will lead to serious adverse effects. If this happens very often, try setting an alarm as a reminder.

Adult Dosage

2-4 tablets a day are commonly prescribed to be spaced out evenly throughout the day for a 3 day period.

Child Dosage

Gen-M 40/240mg Tablet 8 ‘S is safe to be prescribed to patients aged 2 months and older.The dosage for each individual is based on their weight and age.Commonly a tablet a day is prescribed to children weighing between 5 to 15kgs for a period of 3 days.The dosage may be increased with the weight and age of child.

Elderly Dosage 

Sufficient research has not been done on the effects of Gen-M 40/240mg Tablet 8 ‘S on elderly patients and thus Gen-M 40/240mg Tablet 8 ‘S is not currently prescribed to patients aged 65 years and above.

Pregnancy Use And Lactation

This drug is not to be taken or prescribed to expecting and lactating mothers as it may have fatal consequences for the unborn child.If you are taking the drug and become pregnant,inform your doctor immediately.Small amounts of this drug can be transferred to the child through breast milk and therefore Gen-M 40/240mg Tablet 8 ‘S isn’t recommended to lactating mothers.If you are planning to conceive and are taking Gen-M 40/240mg Tablet 8 ‘S as treatment, then refer to the doctor.The physician is likely to change your medicine and dosage.

Contraindications

  • Clinical relevant bradycardia (slow heart rate)

  • Family history of sudden death or of congenital QT interval prolongation (electrical disturbance in heart since birth)
  • Severe malaria
  • Other plasmodium infections.

  • Muscular Aches And Pains- A hot or cold compress can be placed at the area of discomfort to bring relief;an over the counter pain reliever such as paracetamol or ibuprofen can be ingested to bring ease aswell. Avoid high intensity exercise while suffering from muscular pain.
  • Headaches- In which case make sure you rest and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid the use of alcohol. Take a prescribed painkiller. Consult your doctor if the headaches last longer than a week or are severe.
  • Dry Cough – Can be eased by adding honey to warm drinks and having oral lozenges,to provide soothing relief to an irritated throat.Ginger tea has been known to decrease inflammation of an irritated throat thus,providing relief.
