Vorif 50mg Tablet 10 ‘S belongs to a class of drugs called, Antifungals which is specifically a triazole antifungal. It helps combat fungal infections infecting the body at different sites. Vorif 50mg Tablet 10 ‘S is used to treat fungal infections like invasive aspergillosis, esophageal candidiasis, disseminated candidiasis, and Candidemia, especially in non-neutropenic patients. Vorif 50mg Tablet 10 ‘S is commonly used to treat severe fungal infections posing a threat to life. 

Vorif 50mg Tablet 10 ‘S is chemically composed of Voriconazole, which by the nature of its activity is fungistatic. It works by targeting the key component of the fungal cell membrane, ergosterol by blocking its conversion from lanosterol via an important enzyme.  This lack of ergosterol results in compromised function and deranges the growth process. Depending on the severity of infection, Vorif 50mg Tablet 10 ‘S can be administered for a longer duration of time. 

Vorif 50mg Tablet 10 ‘S is available on prescription as tablets to be taken orally with water twice a day on daily basis. Dosage of Vorif 50mg Tablet 10 ‘S depends on age, the severity of the infection, patients’ response to the medicine, and any other drugs being taken.  Vorif 50mg Tablet 10 ‘S can be prescribed to both children above 2 years of age and adults alike. It is not recommended for pregnant females and breastfeeding mothers. How does Vorif 50mg Tablet 10 ‘S work

Vorif 50mg Tablet 10 ‘S is chemically composed of Voriconazole, which by the nature of its activity is fungistatic. It works by targeting the key component of the fungal cell membrane an outer protective covering that supports the organism, ergosterol by blocking its conversion from lanosterol via an important enzyme 14-alpha sterol demethylase.  This lack of ergosterol results in compromised function and deranges the growth and multiplication process. 

How to use Vorif 50mg Tablet 10 ‘S

Vorif 50mg Tablet 10 ‘S is available as oral tablets. Vorif 50mg Tablet 10 ‘S is usually prescribed to be taken twice a day around the same time every day, for better absorption mechanics it should be taken at least 1 hour before the meal or empty stomach. Dosage completely depends on the weight, age, the severity of the infection, patient’s response to the medicine, and comorbidities. Take Vorif 50mg Tablet 10 ‘S as prescribed by your doctor. Do not chew or crush the tablet. If Vorif 50mg Tablet 10 ‘S is required to be taken for longer durations, careful monitoring is advised.

Loading dose: First 24 hours –  400 mg orally  twice a day at 12 hourly interval 

Maintenance dose: 200 mg to be taken orally, twice a day at 12 hourly interval

Loading dose:  200 mg to be taken orally, twice a day at 12 hourly interval

Maintenance dose: 100 mg to be taken orally, twice a day at 12 hourly interval

Child Dose

Vorif 50mg Tablet 10 ‘S is not considered safe for children under 2 years of age. Oral tablets are only given if your child is capable of taking them orally.

2 to 12 years weighing 40 kgs or  less

Loading dose: Given via IV route for the first 24 hours

Maintenance dose: 9 mg/kg twice a day orally

Maximum Safe dose:  350 mg, twice a day orally

12 years and above weighing 40 kgs or  more

Loading dose:  400 mg to be taken orally, twice a day at 12 hourly interval

Maintenance dose: 200 mg to be taken orally, twice a day at 12 hourly interval

 Elderly Dose

In elderly patients, caution must be advised. The doses are generally the same as adult doses.

Pregnancy Use And Lactation

Vorif 50mg Tablet 10 ‘S is FDA pregnancy risk category D which has shown adverse effects on the unborn baby in studies and trials conducted on animals, therefore if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to conceive a baby, please consult your doctor. It is not known whether Vorif 50mg Tablet 10 ‘S is secreted into human milk or not, if you are breastfeeding, please consult your doctor before taking it.
