Cestonil Syrup 120 ml is an anti-migraine medication primarily used to prevent and treat migraines and vascular headaches, and also as a prophylactic treatment for migraines and vascular headaches. It is also used for cluster headaches which occur at a certain time of the year. Cestonil Syrup 120 ml blocks the effect of chemicals such as serotonin tryptamine and histamine which are produced by the body and may be involved in causing headaches. 

Cestonil Syrup 120 ml needs to be taken daily and before the onset of a migraine attack to help prevent it even then it may not be able to prevent the migraine completely but will lessen the severity of it and the number of times it occurs. If taken after the migraine attack has already begun, then Cestonil Syrup 120 ml may not be effective in relieving the pain. 

Some side effects are dizziness, fatigue, weight gain, and dry mouth. Before starting the course, your doctor should be informed about pregnancy or planned conception, pressure in the eye, epilepsy, difficulty passing urine, liver or kidney problems, and if you are taking any other medication or are allergic to any medication.

How does Cestonil Syrup 120 ml work

It blocks the action of serotonin, tryptamine, and histamine.

How to use the product?

The tablet should be swallowed with a water whole, preferably at the same time each day so it is easier to remember to take. It can be taken with or without a meal.

Dosage 

Cestonil Syrup 120 ml can be given in 1 whole or 3 divided doses per day which is to be confirmed by your doctor.

Adult dosage

 The starting dose is 0.5mg and the daily maintenance dose is 1.5mg given in one dose at night or in 3 divided doses. The maximum dose per day is not to exceed 4.5mg. The maximum dose at a time cannot exceed 3mg/dose.

Child dosage

2yrs+ starting dose of 0.5mg and daily maintenance dose of 1.5mg given in divided doses. The maximum dose at a time cannot exceed 1mg/dose.

Pregnancy use and lactation

Cestonil Syrup 120 ml has not shown any significant evidence of being of harm to pregnant women or the fetus and its effects are unknown. The doctor can prescribe the medicine after considering the patient’s condition and reaction to the medicine. However, caution is advised and the intake should only be done under the care and supervision of a medical expert.

Medicine might get carried down into the breast milk in small proportions, however, that has not shown any significant damage to the infants and can be ingested if there are no other options available, the use of this medicine is still not recommended to nursing women.

Fatigue- Patients experiencing this adverse effect are advised to take deep breaths, intake tea or coffee, get a good night’s rest, and not overburden themselves for a few days.

Feeling drowsy –If the medication makes you feel drowsy or sleepy, stop what you’re doing and sit or lie down until you feel better, and do not rise too fast or immediately from a sitting or lying down position to a standing posture. Do not drive or use tools or machinery in case of any of these effects.

Headaches- In which case make sure you rest and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid the use of alcohol. Take a prescribed painkiller. Consult your doctor if the headaches last longer than a week or are severe

Feeling or being sick (nausea or vomiting) or diarrhea –Avoid eating rich or spicy food. It might help to take medication after food. If you’re sick, try drinking small, frequent sips of water.
