About

{{Product}} contains L-methyl folate as an active agent, a form of Vitamin B, and is used to treat megaloblastic anemia, hepatic and renal impairment, depression, and manage folate deficiency.

Folate is required to produce red blood cells. Its deficiency can cause anemia, and hyperhomocysteinemia (high levels of amino acids in the blood). {{Product}} is not a medication for psychological disorders, however, it may enhance the activity of some antidepressants and antipsychotics.

Indications

  • Dietary management of impaired metabolic processes in women with nutritional requirements during high-risk recurrent pregnancy loss, Impaired folic acid absorption and metabolism, and high hyperhomocysteinemia (high levels of amino acids in the blood) during pregnancy.
  • Adjunct to treatment with antidepressants.
  • Hepatic and renal impairment.
  • Megaloblastic anemia (formation of large and abnormal red blood cells)

How Does Folace 400mcg Tablet 10 ‘S Work

{{Product}} contains l-methyl folate as an active ingredient. It is a structural analog of folic acid that is diffused in the blood, after readily transforming into its active form and producing its biological activities including anticancer activities, biosynthesis of nucleic acids on a genetic level, and acting as an adjunct to depression. L-methyl folate gives off its methyl group and inactivates the tumor-promoting genes by DNA hypomethylation. This causes a decline in the proliferation and progression of tumor cells and renders the chromosomes unstable to contribute to tumor development.

L-methyl folate also sensitizes tumor cells to the cytotoxic effects of chemotherapeutic agents. It is also helpful in the treatment of brain tumors because of its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, unlike folic acid.

How To Use Folace 400mcg Tablet 10 ‘S

{{Product}} should be taken orally (by mouth), regardless of the meal.

Dosage

The usual dose is one to two tablets daily. The typical dose for folic acid deficiency is 250 to 1000 mcg per day. However, the recommended dose to fulfill dietary requirements is 400mcg in adults.

High homocysteine in the blood

  • 0.5 to 5 mg per day has been used, although 0.8-1 mg per day is more effective.
  • 15 mg per day has been used. Other dosage plans such as 2.5 to 5 mg thrice a week are also effective.

Depression

7.5 to 15 mg once daily as an adjunct to antidepressant medication.

Megaloblastic Anemia

7.5 to 15 mg once daily

Renal & Hepatic Impairment

The dose shouldn’t exceed more than 40 mg per day in cases of moderate to severe renal or hepatic impairment.

Pregnancy And Lactation

The active agent is distributed in breast milk to fulfill the daily dietary requirement of folic acid for the infant. Intake for a prolonged period may cause a decrease in the serum levels of Vitamin B12.

400 mcg is recommended for women of childbearing potential or should be continued through the first month of pregnancy. However, the recommended dose during pregnancy is 600mcg.

Prevention of neural tube defects

The dose for women with a history of pregnancy with neural tube defect is 4 mg per day before one month of conception and continued for three months after conception.
