Debridat 200mg Tablet 20 ‘S is used to treat a wide range of gastrointestinal symptoms that are categorized under irritable bowel syndrome (spastic colon) entity or functional digestive disorders including stomach pain, cramps, spasms, flatulence, diarrhea, and constipation. It is also used to treat paralytic ileus after abdominal surgery. 

Debridat 200mg Tablet 20 ‘S belongs to a class of drugs known as spasmolytic agents that works by delaying or normalizing abnormal bowel movements.

Debridat 200mg Tablet 20 ‘S is available in liquid and tablet form that is taken orally (by mouth) with or without food (preferred if taken 20 mins before every meal) usually three times a day or as directed by your physician.

• Functional non-ulcer dyspepsia
• Postoperative intestinal paralysis (paralytic ileus)
• Preparation for radiological and endoscopic diagnostic procedures

How Does Debridat 200mg Tablet 20 ‘S Work

Debridat 200mg Tablet 20 ‘S contains trimebutine as an active ingredient, which is a gastrointestinal motility modulator with spasmolytic characteristics that does not impair normal digestive peristalsis.  It also helps to rectify improper motility caused by gastrointestinal or biliary pain. This medication increases stomach emptying, relieves nausea and vomiting, decreases colon contractility (by triggering Phase-III waves generated by the migrating motor complex), and suppresses preceding stimulation. 

How To Use Debridat 200mg Tablet 20 ‘S

Debridat 200mg Tablet 20 ‘S is taken by mouth (preferred if taken 20 mins before every meal) usually three times a day or as directed by your physician. This medicine is available in tablet and suspension form. Prepare the bottle of suspension by filling it with water up to the mark and shaking it to thoroughly mix the granules for oral suspension. Do not exceed the dose, take it more frequently, or take it for longer than recommended. 

Dosage

Debridat 200mg Tablet 20 ‘S is available as a tablet and suspension.

Form and strength

Oral Suspension: 24mg/5ml

Tablet               : 100mg, 200mg (10S), 200mg (20S)

Adult dosage:

Oral suspension: 15-30ml of oral suspension is taken usually three times a day (using the supplied measuring cup)

Tablet/capsule: Dose ranges from 300-600mg/day, divided into 2-3times a day (before meals)

Child Dosage

This medicine is not recommended for children under 12yrs of age. Children should not be given this medicine without first seeking medical advice. Do not use if your child has colic. 

• Up to 6 months old: one 2.5 mL graduation of the measuring cup, 2 to 3 times a day.
• 6 months to 1 year: one 5 mL graduation of the measuring cup, twice a day.  
• 1 to 5 years: one 5 mL graduation of the measuring cup, 3 times a day.  
• Over the age of 5 years: one 10 mL graduation of the measuring cup, 3 times a day

Elderly dosage

Age 65 years and older – In general, dose adjustments are not necessary for the elderly. The physician, on the other hand, should assess the patient’s potential for organic deterioration and determine the most appropriate dose in each case. 

Pregnancy and Lactation

This medicine is not suggested for usage by pregnant women. Contact your doctor right away if you become pregnant while taking this medicine. 

Debridat 200mg Tablet 20 ‘S may enter breast milk, however, this is unknown. This drug may affect your infant if you are a breastfeeding mother. Discuss if you should continue to breastfeed with your doctor.

• Change in taste- this tends to go away as soon as the patient stops taking the medicine but while treatment; saltwater with baking soda (half a teaspoon of salt and baking soda in water) rinses and chewing on sugar-free gum can help dissipate the change in taste.
• Fatigue- Patients experiencing this adverse effect are advised to take deep breaths, intake tea or coffee, get a good night’s rest, and not overburden themselves for a few days.
• Feeling drowsy -If the medication makes you feel drowsy or sleepy, stop what you’re doing and sit or lie down until you feel better and do not rise too fast or immediately from a sitting or lying down position to a standing posture. Do not drive or use tools or machinery in case of any of these effects
• Feeling dizzy (lightheaded) or weak –If the medication makes you feel dizzy or weak, stop what you’re doing and sit or lie down until you feel better and do not rise too fast or immediately from sitting or lying down position to a standing posture.
