Staxin IV 400mg/250ml Injection 1 vial contains Moxifloxacin as an active ingredient. Staxin IV 400mg/250ml Injection 1 vial is a bactericidal antibiotic whose mechanism of action involves binding to an enzyme called DNA gyrase, which facilitates the untwisting required to replicate one DNA double helix into two. 

Moxifloxacin’s bactericidal effect is due to inhibition of the enzymes topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV. DNA gyrase is a necessary enzyme for the replication, transcription, and repair of bacterial DNA. Topoisomerase IV is an enzyme that is involved in chromosomal DNA partitioning during bacterial cell division. 

How To Use Staxin IV 400mg/250ml Injection 1 vial

A qualified healthcare practitioner injects Staxin IV 400mg/250ml Injection 1 vial into the patient’s muscles (intramuscular route) or in the patient’s vein (intravenously). An alcohol swab or any other disinfectant available at the hospital is used to disinfect the area where the needle will pierce the skin. The needle is then unscrewed and the solution is injected slowly into the body. Staxin IV 400mg/250ml Injection 1 vial is infused intravenously over 60 minutes once daily. 

The area of skin where the needle is inserted may bruise or be uncomfortable for up to 24 hours. Intravenous Infusion: 400mg/250ml

Adult Dosage 

Once-daily infusions of Staxin IV 400mg/250ml Injection 1 vial are indicated. 

When clinically required, intravenous treatment may be followed by oral treatment with moxifloxacin 400 mg tablets. 

Child Dosage

In youngsters and developing adolescents, Staxin IV 400mg/250ml Injection 1 vial is not recommended. Moxifloxacin’s efficacy and safety in children and adolescents are unknown. 

Elderly Dosage  

The elderly and individuals with a low body weight do not require any dosage adjustments.

Precautions

• Staxin IV 400mg/250ml Injection 1 vial may make you sensitive to sun exposure. Sunlamps, tanning booths, and long-term sun exposure should all be avoided. When you’re out in the sun, use sunscreen and protective gear. 

Interactions With Other Medications

• Ulcer medicine sucralfate or antacids that contain calcium, magnesium, or potassium
• Didanosine (Videx) powder or chewable tablets
• Lanthanum carbonate
• Vitamin or mineral supplements that contain magnesium, iron, aluminum, or zinc
• Blood thinner (Warfarin, Coumadin, Jantoven)
• A diuretic or water pill
• Heart rhythm medication

• Prednisone

Serious side effects:

• symptoms of low blood sugar: headache, irritability, hunger, sweating, nausea, fast heart rate, sweating, feeling anxious or shaky

• Nerve symptoms in your hands, feet, arms, or legs: tingling, numbness, weakness, burning pain, etc

• Severe stomach pain with watery or bloody diarrhea
• Muscle weakness or breathing problems

• A skin rash (even if it is mild)
• Liver problems: upper stomach pain, dark urine, loss of appetite, jaundice, clay-colored stools
• Increased pressure inside the skull: vision problems, ringing in ears, headache, pain behind eyes, etc
• Very serious side effects: 

Moxifloxacin may cause damage to your aorta, the body’s main blood vessel, in rare situations. This could result in life-threatening bleeding or death. If you feel severe and persistent discomfort in your chest, stomach, or back, get emergency medical attention immediately.

Common Adverse Effects

Following side effects may not require immediate medical attention until becomes troublesome:

• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Stomach and abdominal pain 
• Headache
• Dizziness
• heartburn
• Increase of liver enzymes in the blood (transaminases)
• Oral or vaginal infections caused by Candida
• Pain or inflamation at injection site
• Changes in ECG (heart rhythm) of patients with low potassium level      

How To Cope With Some Of The Adverse Effects

• Feeling or being sick (nausea or vomiting) or diarrhea –Avoid eating rich or spicy food. It might help to take medication after food. If you’re sick, try drinking small, frequent sips of water.
• Headaches- In which case make sure you rest and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid the use of alcohol. Take a prescribed painkiller. Consult your doctor if the headaches last longer than a week or are severe
• Feeling dizzy (lightheaded) or weak –If the medication makes you feel dizzy or weak, stop what you’re doing and sit or lie down until you feel better and do not rise too fast or immediately from sitting or lying down position to a standing posture. • Muscular Aches And Pains- A hot or cold compress can be placed at the area of discomfort to bring relief; an over-the-counter pain reliever such as paracetamol or ibuprofen can be ingested to bring ease as well. Avoid high-intensity exercise while suffering from muscular pain.
• Heartburn – can be dealt with by chewing on mint-flavored gum that’ll help neutralize the acid in the body. Standing up straighter, adding ginger to the daily diet, elevating the patient’s upper body, and having licorice supplements has shown to provide relief.
• Skin Rash- can be eased by applying soothing and healing lotions or creams such as calamine lotion/cream. Apply a cold compress to the rash to help reduce itchiness and redness caused by the rash. An antihistamine (prescribed by a doctor) is also recommended as an effective way to combat any skin rash.
• Soreness at the site of injection- a cold compress can be used for 5 minutes to ease out the soreness.
