Description

About

Calcibet Ointment 15 gm belongs to a class of topical medicines that is a combination of synthetic steroid (Glucocorticoid) and vitamin D derivative (calcipotriol). Calcibet Ointment 15 gm is prescribed for the treatment of inflammatory skin conditions, particularly effective against skin conditions causing plaque patches, commonly seen in Psoriasis. The application of medicines in combination has proven to be more effective as compared to treatment with a single drug. Psoriasis is a skin disease that is inflammatory and causes swelling, redness, itching, and dry flaky skin. Topical medicines can be prescribed alone or combined with oral drugs.

Calcibet Ointment 15 gm contains Betamethasone dipropionate and calcipotriol which acts by reducing inflammation exhibited by swelling and redness, as well as help control the rate of skin cells showing production in excess, this increased growth is the reason why skin appears thick in patches. Therapeutic outcomes of Calcibet Ointment 15 gm have been well-received due to its dual mode of action against inflammatory skin conditions.

Calcibet Ointment 15 gm is available in the form of ointment or gel in a tube, meant for external use only. Calcibet Ointment 15 gm can be applied in a thin coat over the affected area on the skin with clean hands, once daily. Usually, clinical improvements can be seen in a week, but the treatment may last up to 4 weeks or as advised by your doctor. Common side effects of Calcibet Ointment 15 gm include skin rash, itching, and skin dryness.

Indications

Calcibet Ointment 15 gm is prescribed for the management of a variety of skin conditions including:

  • Psoriasis Vulgaris

How Does Calcibet Ointment 15 gm Work?

Calcibet Ointment 15 gm is more suited for inflammatory skin conditions with concurrent patches of plaque affecting it, commonly seen in Psoriasis. It works by acting on the skin via two basic mechanisms. Firstly, Betamethasone being a Glucocorticoid controls the production of proteins that lead to inflammation by binding to Glucocorticoid receptors and interacting with DNA sequence. Also, it controls the infiltration and migration of inflammatory cells like leukocytes. It also inhibits Phospholipase A2 which speeds up the process of prostaglandin formation, a key mediator in inflammatory reactions. Calcibet Ointment 15 gm helps decrease this inflammation.

Secondly, Calcipotriol helps control the rate of production of skin cells, which in excess is causing thickened skin patches. Calcipotriol brings down this overproduction of cells.

How to use Calcibet Ointment 15 gm?

Calcibet Ointment 15 gm is available in the form of ointment or gel meant for external use only to be applied with clean hands after washing the affected skin properly and gently drying afterward. Calcibet Ointment 15 gm is safe for use in adults and adolescents 18 years of age and above. In children, safety data is not yet available.
