Bloxib 200mg Tablet 10 ‘S belongs to a class of drugs called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) which are used for moderate to severe pain relief alone or in combination. It also helps in combating signs of inflammation including swelling, stiffness, tenderness, and pain in conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, dysmenorrhea, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and muscle pain.  

Bloxib 200mg Tablet 10 ‘S is chemically composed of Celecoxib, which particularly inhibits COX-2, unlike other NSAIDs that are non-specific inhibitors of COX 1 and 2. These work by blocking inflammatory mediators and reducing pain and swelling. NSAIDs carry an increased risk of side effects on gastrointestinal including ulceration, bleeding, etc. Bloxib 200mg Tablet 10 ‘S must not be prescribed to people with long-standing heart disease due to the potential risk of myocardial infarction.

Bloxib 200mg Tablet 10 ‘S is available in form of capsules to be taken orally or as prescribed by the doctor. Commonly it is prescribed once or twice a day, to be taken with or without food. Alternatively, powdered medicine filled in the capsule can be emptied on food if you have difficulty swallowing the entire capsule. Bloxib 200mg Tablet 10 ‘S is not safe to be used in children under 18 years of age and pregnant women. Bloxib 200mg Tablet 10 ‘S works by blocking the production of prostaglandins, a major group of chemicals involved in inflammation. Prostaglandins are naturally occurring substance in the body that helps carry out inflammatory responses in the body when needed. By preventing prostaglandins from carrying out the inflammatory process, Bloxib 200mg Tablet 10 ‘S can in the reduction of inflammation, swelling, and pain experienced by the patient.

How To Use Bloxib 200mg Tablet 10 ‘S

Bloxib 200mg Tablet 10 ‘S is available in form of capsules to be taken orally by swallowing, once or twice daily, or as directed by the doctor. It is advised to have Bloxib 200mg Tablet 10 ‘S with food if it causes an upset stomach. If you find it difficult to swallow the capsule, you can open the capsule and empty contents in your food of semi-solid consistency such as porridge, cereal, mashed potato/ banana, or yogurt, and eat it. Bloxib 200mg Tablet 10 ‘S may have to be taken twice a day, in which case the patient is advised to take the doses at the same time each day to ensure sustained levels of medicine in your body.

If you miss a dose of the medication, make sure you take it as soon as possible on that same day. Dosage

It is advised to start the treatment with a minimally effective dose, to be increased up to 400 mg if needed (do not take more than 400 mg). Please consult your doctor at once if there is no noticeable difference in your symptoms. 

Adult Dosage

These doses are generally recommended for the following conditions:

Rheumatoid arthritis: 100 – 200 mg, twice daily

Osteoarthritis: 100 mg twice a day, or 200 mg once a day

Ankylosing spondylitis: 100 mg twice a day, or 200 mg once a day

Dysmenorrhea: 200 mg twice daily, may be increased

Acute Pain: 400 mg once as starting dose, lower the dose to 200 mg twice a day

Pediatric Dose

Bloxib 200mg Tablet 10 ‘S is not prescribed to children and adolescents under 18 years of age

Elderly Dose

Doses must be adjusted when treating the elderly population (above 65 years of age). Moreover, Bloxib 200mg Tablet 10 ‘S is processed majorly by the liver, therefore while administering the drug to elderly patients careful consideration must be given to liver and renal function while deciding upon the dose, especially if the elderly are underweight (less than 50 kgs). 

Pregnancy Use And Lactation

 Bloxib 200mg Tablet 10 ‘S is classified as a pregnancy category C (up to 3rd trimester)) and D (towards the end of the 3rd trimester) drug meaning there is an increased risk of harmful effects to the fetus, it is known to cause heart defects in babies. If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to conceive a baby, please do not use it before consulting your doctor before using Bloxib 200mg Tablet 10 ‘S. If it is accessary to take Bloxib 200mg Tablet 10 ‘S, your doctor may advise you to start contraception.

Contraindications

• NSAIDs are likely to elevate blood pressure, it is advised to monitor your B.P when taking Bloxib 200mg Tablet 10 ‘S

• Headaches – In which case make sure you rest and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid the use of alcohol. Take a prescribed painkiller. Consult your doctor if the headaches last longer than a week or are severe
• Feeling or being sick (nausea or vomiting) or diarrhea – Avoid eating rich or spicy food. It might help to take medication after food. If you’re sick, try drinking small, frequent sips of water.
• Feeling dizzy (lightheaded) or weak – If the medication makes you feel dizzy or weak, stop what you’re doing and sit or lie down until you feel better, and do not rise too fast or immediately from sitting or lying down position to a standing posture. • Skin Rash – This can be eased by applying soothing and healing lotions or creams such as calamine lotion/cream. Apply a cold compress to the rash to help reduce itchiness and redness caused by the rash. An antihistamine (prescribed by a doctor) is also recommended as an effective way to combat any skin rash.
• Flu-like symptoms – To manage symptoms, patients are advised to drink plenty of fluids and get plenty of rest and sleep. Take an antihistamine, a nasal decongestant, or a lozenge to feel better when needed.
