Synalar-C 0.025%+3% Ointment 15 gm is prescribed for inflammatory skin conditions with concurrent fungal infection. It works by acting on the skin via two basic mechanisms. Firstly, Fluocinolone being a corticosteroid controls the production of proteins that lead to inflammation by binding to Glucocorticoid receptors while also exerting vasoconstrictive action on blood vessels and controlling nitric oxide production, responsible for promoting inflammation. Also, it controls the infiltration and migration of inflammatory cells like leukocytes. It also inhibits Phospholipase A2 which speeds up the process of prostaglandin formation, a key mediator in inflammatory reactions.
