Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp is an injection that is used for the treatment, control, prevention, and improvement of infections caused by Clostridium Tetani bacteria. Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp is also used for primary immunization against Tetanus. The active ingredient in Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp is Tetanus Toxoid Adsorbed and aluminum hydroxide. Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp is an inactivated bacterial vaccine.

Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp is recommended for all infants, children, and adults. Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp is administered intramuscularly. {{product} may cause side effects such as fever, body aches redness, pain, and tenderness at the site of the shot.

Indications

 Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp is indicated for:

• active immunization: the body generates its response to protect against infections.
• prevention of neonatal tetanus given to women of childbearing age to prevent neonatal tetanus.
• selective immunization against tetanus

How does Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp work?

Vaccines work by causing the body to produce its defensive mechanism in the form of antibodies. The antibodies attack the causative agent of infection.

How to use Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp?

Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp is initially given to infants in combination with vaccines for diphtheria and whooping cough. This vaccine is also used as a “booster” vaccine that may be needed at the time of injury in children and adults if it has been 5-10 years since the last dose of tetanus vaccine was received. Booster injections of Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp should also be given every 10 years even if no injury has occurred. 

Inject Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp intramuscularly in the thigh area or deltoid. The Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp should not be injected into the gluteal area or areas where there may be a major nerve supply.

Dosage 

0.5ml is the dosage of Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp at any age. 

For Non-Vaccinated Individuals

Dose 1 Any time

Dose 2 At least 1 month after the first dose

Dose 3 At least 6 months after the second dose

Dose 4 At least 1 year after the third dose

Dose 5 At least 1 year after the fourth dose

Emergency Prophylaxis

Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp should be given in wounds/injuries suspected of tetanus contamination:

• If Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp was given a year or less before the present injury, prophylaxis is not necessary.

• If Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp was given one to five years previously, a booster dose of 0.5ml must be given intramuscularly.

• If vaccination or revaccination was given by Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp more than five years before, it is necessary to give a booster dose of 0.5ml Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp injection of 1500 IU. tetanus antitoxin (Equine) or tetanus immunoglobulin.

• If vaccination or revaccination was not carried out or was incomplete, tetanus antiserum as recommended.

Pregnancy and lactation

Use Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp with caution in pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Animal studies show risk and human studies are not available. It is not known if Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp is excreted in breastmilk. 

Contraindications

• if you are hypersensitive to the Imatet 40IU Injection 10 amp or its contents.
• if you have a neurologic disorder.
• if the patient is suffering from severe infection or febrile illness and is getting treatment.

How to cope with side effects
