Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial is an intravitreal solution that is injected into the eye. Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial is used to treat ophthalmic conditions such as:

  • neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD),
  • impaired vision due to macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion (branch RVO (BRVO) or central RVO (CRVO)),
  • impaired vision due to diabetic macular edema (DME),
  • impaired vision due to myopic choroidal neovascularisation (myopic CNV).

Aflibercept is the active substance in the Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial. Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial works by blocking the activity of a group of factors, known as Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A (VEGF-A) and Placental Growth Factor (PlGF). Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial comes in injection form. Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial may cause side effects such as eye pain, deterioration of eyesight, retinal hemorrhages, and bloodshot eye. 

Indications

 Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial is indicated for

  • neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD),
  • impaired vision due to macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion (branch RVO (BRVO) or central RVO (CRVO)),
  • impaired vision due to diabetic macular edema (DME),
  • impaired vision due to myopic choroidal neovascularisation (myopic CNV).

How does Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial work?

Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial is in a class of medications called vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) and placental growth factor (PlGF) antagonists. It works by hindering abnormal blood vessel growth and leakage in the eyes that may cause vision loss in people with certain pre-existing eye conditions.

How to use Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial?

{{PRODUCT}} is a solution that a trained doctor injects into the eye. It is often administered in a doctor’s office. Your doctor will give Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial according to a schedule that is ideal for you and your situation. Before giving Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial, your doctor will clean your eye to prevent infection. Then the doctor will numb it to make the injection less painful. The doctor will need to evaluate your eyes after the injection. 

Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial will control but not cure certain eye diseases. The doctor will monitor your progress and evaluate how well the Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial is working on you. Consult your doctor about the duration of use of the Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial. 

Dosage 

  • The recommended dose is 2 mg of Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial (0.05 mL).
  • 1 mL solution for injection contains 40 mg of Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial.
  • One vial contains an extractable volume of at least 0.1 mL, equivalent to at least 4 mg of aflibercept. This provides a usable amount to deliver a single dose of 0.05 mL containing 2 mg Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial.

Macular Degeneration

Indicated for the treatment of neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the dose is 2 mg (0.05 mL) by intravitreal injection.

Macular Edema

Indicated for the treatment of macular edema following retinal vein occlusion (RVO), the dose is 2 mg (0.05 mL) by intravitreal injection.

Diabetic Macular Edema (DME)

Recommended dose of Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial is 2 mg (0.05 mL) administered by intravitreal injection. 

Diabetic Retinopathy

Recommended dose of Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial is 2 mg (0.05 mL) administered by intravitreal injection. 

Pregnancy and lactation

  • Women who are planning a pregnancy have to use effective contraception during treatment and for at least three months post the last dose of {product}}.
  • Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial should not be used during pregnancy unless the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the unborn child. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, consult your doctor before starting Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial.
  • Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial is not recommended during breast-feeding as it is not known whether Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial passes into human milk. Consult your doctor for advice before starting Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial. 

Contraindications

{product}} should not be used in people who are:

  • If you are allergic to Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
  • If you have an active or suspected infection in or around the eye (ocular or periocular infection).
  • If you have severe inflammation of the eye (indicated by pain or redness).

Precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist or nurse before using Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial:

  • if you have glaucoma.
  • if you have a history of seeing flashes of light or floaters.
  • if surgery was performed or is planned on your eye within the previous or next four weeks.
  • if you have a severe form of central retinal vein occlusion or branch retinal vein occlusion treatment with Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial is not recommended.
  • injections of Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial may cause an increase in eye pressure (intraocular pressure) in some patients within 60 minutes of the injection. Your doctor will monitor this after each injection.
  • if you develop an infection or inflammation inside the eye (endophthalmitis)
  • Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial should not be used in pregnancy unless the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the unborn child.
  • women who are planning a pregnancy have to use effective contraception during treatment. 

 Interaction with other medications

 No interaction studies have been performed.

Adverse effects

  • deterioration of eyesight
  • bleeding in the back of the eye (retinal hemorrhage)
  • bloodshot eye caused by bleeding from small blood vessels in the outer layers of the eye
  • eye pain
  • detachment or tear of one of the layers in the back of the eye, resulting in flashes of light with floaters
  • degeneration of the retina (causing disturbed vision)
  • bleeding in the eye (vitreous hemorrhage)
  • certain forms of clouding of the lens (cataract)
  • damage to the front layer of the eyeball (the cornea)
  • increase in eye pressure
  • moving spots in vision (floaters)
  • detachment of the gel-like substance inside the eye from the retina (vitreous detachment, resulting in flashes of light with floaters)
  • feeling of having something in the eye
  • increased tear production
  • swelling of the eyelid
  • bleeding at the injection site
  • redness of the eye 

 How to cope with side effects

Blurry vision – If you have blurry vision after use of Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial don’t drive or operate dangerous machines until your vision improves. Consult your doctor if your vision does not get better

.Endophthalmitis (infection inside your eye) – If you have endophthalmitis, your doctor will treat this by prescribing an antibiotic tablet or ointment. 

Retinal tear or detachment –  If you have a retinal tear or detachment, you’ll usually need surgery to treat the problem. 

Vitreous detachment – This condition does not need treatment. But if you have any vision changes consult your doctor. 

Cataracts – Call your doctor right away if you have mild symptoms, such as a mild rash. If your doctor confirms you had an allergic reaction to Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial, then they might change your treatment.

  • DOES {{PRODUCT}} CAUSE LONG-TERM SIDE EFFECTS?At times the long-term treatment of Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial can cause a long-term increase in the pressure in your eye. High pressure in your eye can damage your optic nerve, leading to vision loss. If you have a long-term increase in eye pressure, prescription eye drops may help decrease this pressure.
  • HOW LONG DO SIDE EFFECTS FROM {{PRODUCT}} LAST?

Most side effects arising from Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial usually go away on their own within a few days or weeks. If side effects last longer then you should consult your doctor. 

  • WHAT HAPPENS WHEN {{PRODUCT}} OVERDOSAGE OCCURS?

Overdose is less likely because it is given in a controlled environment by a trained individual. Overdosage might cause symptoms such as trouble breathing.

Alcohol should generally be avoided as it may aggravate the pharmacologic effects of CNS-active agents. Alcohol consumption may result in additive central nervous system depression and/or impairment of judgment, thinking, and psychomotor skills.

You should not drive or use machinery after the use of Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial as your vision may be blurred.

Keep Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial out of the reach of children. Store in refrigerator and do not freeze the Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial. You should not be given Eylea 40mg Injection 1 vial if it has been partly used or shows signs of visible damage such as color change.
