Moduretic 5mg+50mg Tablet  is most commonly prescribed for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension), heart attacks, and kidney problems. Moduretic Tablet performs the function of lowering high blood pressure. Furthermore, it also helps prevent strokes and is also recommended during the treatment of edema, and water retention which may occur in patients with congestive heart failure. Moduretic Tablet belongs to the category of potassium-sparing diuretics, also known as water pills. 

Moduretic Tablet is most commonly recommended to patients who have such low levels of potassium that it starts to become dangerous for them, Moduretic Tablet helps the unneeded water and salt in the body to flush down from the kidney through urine. Patients might also be required to adapt to a few lifestyle changes along with the consumption of the medication as it would help control blood pressure and bring about a healthy diet.

Moduretic 5mg+50mg Tablet 10 ‘S should be ingested only as directed by the medical expert. The medicine should be consumed daily if instructed by the doctor, if another medicine is recommended along with Moduretic 5mg+50mg Tablet 10 ‘S by the doctor then it should not be forgotten and ingested accordingly as many times as directed by the doctor.

Dosage 

Adult Dosage 

• Hypertension: Initially 2.5/25mg daily which could be increased to 5/50mg daily.
• Congestive Heart Failure:  Initially 2.5/25mg daily which could be increased to 10/100mg daily and reduced dose for maintenance if needed.
• Oedema and Ascites in cirrhosis of the liver: Initially 5/50mg daily which could be increased to 10/100mg, reduce dose for maintenance if needed.

Not recommended for children.

Pregnancy Use And Lactation

Medicine has shown potential risks and can be harmful to the fetus hence should be avoided during pregnancy. If a patient gets pregnant during the administration then she should consult his doctor. 

Moduretic Tablet is advised to not be administered to the nursing mother as it may be exerted into the breastmilk and cause infant harm. There has been no potential evidence of harm but there are potential risks therefore Moduretic Tablet is advised to be avoided. It is unsure whether Amiloride does get excreted into breast milk but hydrochlorothiazide does get excreted, hence if it is consumed by a nursing mother it should be done so in small doses.

How To Cope With Some Adverse Effects 

Headaches- In which case make sure you rest and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid the use of alcohol. Take a prescribed painkiller. Consult your doctor if the headaches last longer than a week or are severe

Nausea or Diarrhea -Avoid eating rich or spicy food. It might help to take medication after food. If you are sick, try drinking small, frequent sips of water.

Feeling dizzy-If the medication makes you feel dizzy or weak, stop what you’re doing and sit or lie down until you feel better, and do not rise too fast or immediately from a sitting or lying down position to a standing posture. Do not drive or use tools or machinery in case of any of these effects.

Dry Mouth – Can be helped by sipping water throughout the day, chewing sugarless gum, using alcohol-free mouthwash, allowing ice to melt in the mouth, or using a saliva substitute.
