Atcovate Lotion 20 ml belongs to a group of chemicals known as corticosteroids and aids in reducing swelling, redness, and itchiness associated with conditions such as eczema, allergies, dermatitis, and various skin rashes. Corticosteroids work by inhibiting the production of proteins that lead to inflammation.

A thin layer of Atcovate Lotion 20 ml is to be applied on the skin with clean hands 1-2 times per day or as advised by the physician. Atcovate Lotion 20 ml is to be used under the care and supervision of a doctor and for a specified period only. Application/usage of Atcovate Lotion 20 ml is not stopped abruptly as that may lead to a recurrence of the ailment, therefore,Atcovate Lotion 20 ml is gradually tapered off. Patients are advised to not stop using the Atcovate Lotion 20 ml once they see or feel an improvement in their symptoms, which is likely to occur 2-3 weeks after starting treatment with Atcovate Lotion 20 ml.

Mild side effects such as a stinging or burning sensation may be felt at the time of application for a few days. Atcovate Lotion 20 ml is not considered safe to be prescribed to children under one year of age, nor to pregnant and breastfeeding women. Atcovate Lotion 20 ml should not be prescribed to patients with known sensitivity to Atcovate Lotion 20 ml or corticosteroids.

How Does Atcovate Lotion 20 ml Work?

Corticosteroids work by inhibiting the production of proteins that lead to inflammation by interacting with the human DNA sequence and preventing the transcription of proteins needed in an inflammatory process.

How To Use Atcovate Lotion 20 ml?

A thin layer of Atcovate Lotion 20 ml is to be applied on the skin with clean hands 1-2 times per day or as advised by the physician. Atcovate Lotion 20 ml is to be used under the care and supervision of a doctor and for a specified period only. Application/usage of Atcovate Lotion 20 ml is not stopped abruptly as that may lead to a recurrence of the ailment, therefore,Atcovate Lotion 20 ml is gradually tapered off. Do not use a rough hand; just gently apply Atcovate Lotion 20 ml to the affected area. Atcovate Lotion 20 ml is not meant to be covered after application. Atcovate Lotion 20 ml may have a seal on top that needs to be removed or punctured before gel can be applied. Patients are advised to wash their hands after each application of Atcovate Lotion 20 ml. If Atcovate Lotion 20 ml is being used to treat diaper rash in babies, it’s advised to leave the area uncovered for a minimum of 10 minutes. Patients aged 18 years and older are advised to not use another skin ointment/cream/lotion for up to 30 minutes after applying Atcovate Lotion 20 ml.

It is advised that Atcovate Lotion 20 ml is applied at the same time each day, an alarm can be placed to remind patients to apply Atcovate Lotion 20 ml at the proper time each day. If the patient misses a dose of Atcovate Lotion 20 ml, they should apply it immediately but if the time for the next dose of the drug is near then it’s beneficial for patients to skip the missed dose and apply Atcovate Lotion 20 ml as per schedule, doubling of doses has proven to cause severe side effects.

Dosage

Adult Dosage

An inch of Atcovate Lotion 20 ml is to be applied twice daily; preferably leaving an 8 to 10-hour gap in between each use. Atcovate Lotion 20 ml is to be applied on the affected area only.

Child Dosage

A quarter or half an inch of Atcovate Lotion 20 ml is to be applied. Dosage for patients aged 18 years and younger is dependent upon their age, weight, and stage of illness. Patients aged 1 year and under are not prescribed Atcovate Lotion 20 ml.

Elderly Dosage 

An inch of Atcovate Lotion 20 ml is to be applied twice daily; preferably leaving an 8 to 10-hour gap in between each use. Atcovate Lotion 20 ml is to be applied on the affected area only.

Pregnancy Use and Lactation

There isn’t sufficient evidence to suggest that Atcovate Lotion 20 ml is safe or unsafe for application by pregnant and/or lactating women. It’s advised that expecting women or breastfeeding mothers consult their physicians before applying any cream/ointment.

Contraindications

How To Cope with Some of The Adverse Effects

  • Redness Of the Skin- can be combated by applying a cold pack to the affected area.
  • Photosensitivity – patients are asked to wear sun-protective clothes when going outside including gloves and a hat, to apply generous amounts of broad-spectrum sunblock along with wearing sunglasses. Patients are advised to do all necessary work after sunset to reduce or eliminate sun exposure while undergoing treatment with Atcovate Lotion 20 ml.
  • Blurred vision – This side effect tends to go away on its own if a few days; patients are advised to not operate heavy machinery or drive any motorized vehicles in the meantime. If blurred vision persists, please contact your doctor.
  • Stinging sensation on the skin- can be eased by applying a cold compress to the skin.
  • Dryness- apply a moisturizer to the skin and wait for 10-15 minutes after which apply Atcovate Lotion 20 ml onto the skin. This will prevent skin from getting dry and flaky.
