Targocid IM/IV 400mg Injection 1 vial contains Tobramycin, which belongs to a group of chemicals known as antibiotics and is commonly prescribed to patients who are resistant to Penicillins and Cephalosporins or to patients infected by bacterial strains that are resistant to other drugs. Dosing and Indications

Targocid IM/IV 400mg Injection 1 vial can be used to treat: 

• Moderate to severe Gram-positive infections 
• Moderate to severe Staphylococcal infections 
• Patients unresponsive to Penicillins 
• Patients unresponsive to Cephalosporins 
• Bacterial infections of the heart
• Bacterial infections of the skin and soft tissues 
• Urinary tract and bladder bacterial infections
• Respiratory bacterial infections 
• Preoperative prophylaxis treatment 

ADULT DOSAGE

MODERATE INFECTIONS: 400MG of the drug is administered either intravenously or intramuscularly, initially. This dose may be repeated for either 3,5 or 7 days; the duration of treatment is determined by the physician depending upon each patient’s needs.

SEVERE INFECTIONS: 400MG of the drug is prescribed to be administered 3 times; a waiting period of 12 hours is to be observed after each dose. After this initial treatment, this dosage may be repeated daily for several days; determined by a physician.

CHILD DOSAGE

MODERATE INFECTIONS: 10MG/KG of body weight is administered slowly (over a period of 30 minutes), thrice. A waiting period of 12 hours is to be observed after each dose. After this initial treatment, the dosage may be decreased to 8MG/KG of body weight, depending upon the patient’s needs and requirements.

SEVERE INFECTIONS: 10MG/KG of body weight is administered every day, either intravenously or intramuscularly for a certain number of days, determined by a physician 

How To Use Targocid IM/IV 400mg Injection 1 vial

Targocid IM/IV 400mg Injection 1 vial is available in powered format in a glass vial. Targocid IM/IV 400mg Injection 1 vial is meant to be diluted with saline, Sodium Chloride 0.9%, Compound Sodium Lactate, or Dextrose 5%.

Targocid IM/IV 400mg Injection 1 vial is injected into the patient’s vein (intravenously) or the patient’s muscles (intramuscularly) by a trained healthcare professional. The area where the needle is to pierce the skin is first disinfected with an alcohol swab or any other disinfectant that the hospital has. Then the needle was uncapped, and the solution was injected into the body. The solution is injected slowly. The area of the skin where the needle enters may slightly bruise or remain sore for 24 hours. After the injection, the needle prick is pressed down (by hand) for 20 seconds to ensure there is no bleeding and then a band-aid is placed on top. It is advised to not mix Targocid IM/IV 400mg Injection 1 vial with other medicines. The patient is advised to take each dose at the same time each day keeping a 6- or 8-12-hour gap in between each dose. 

If you miss a dose of the medication, make sure you take it as soon as possible on that same day. If you don’t remember you missed the dose until the next dose time or the next day, do not double the dose and take your medication as per schedule.

Side Effects

Tell your healthcare supervisor immediately, if you experience any of the following symptoms:

• Soreness at the site of injection 
• Skin rash
• Fever 
• Dizziness 
• Stomach problems (such as nausea and cramps)
• Headache 
• Tinnitus 
• Thrombophlebitis 

Contraindications

• Moderate to severe kidney disease/impairment
