Triton 0.10% Ointment 15 gm belongs to Glucocorticoids (Corticosteroids). Triton 0.10% Ointment 15 gm is used to manage several severe and/ or debilitating autoimmune and inflammatory conditions including conditions of the skin like dermatitis, eczema, hypersensitivity, psoriasis, lichen plan, etc. or joint stiffness like rheumatoid/osteoarthritis, endocrine disorders like adrenal gland insufficiency and other conditions discussed later. 

Triton 0.10% Ointment 15 gm is chemically composed of Triamcinolone which works by inhibiting the production of chemical mediators involved in inflammation and immune reaction. It binds to and inhibits phospholipase A2, blocking the formation of arachidonic acid subsequently reducing the biosynthesis of COX and LOX, the two most important enzymes involved in inflammation. 

Triton 0.10% Ointment 15 gm is available as an intramuscular/intra-articular injection or topical ointment to be used as per the doctor’s advice. Intramuscular injection is administered by a health care provider and ointment can be self-applied 2-3 times daily, the dosage must not exceed more than recommended. Triton 0.10% Ointment 15 gm can be safely given to children (2 years and above) and adults. Nausea, bloating, headache, dry skin, appetite changes are some common side effects seen with the Triton 0.10% Ointment 15 gm. How does Triton 0.10% Ointment 15 gm work?

Triton 0.10% Ointment 15 gm works by inhibiting the production of chemical mediators involved in inflammation and immune reaction. It binds to and inhibits phospholipase A2, blocking the formation of arachidonic acid subsequently reducing the biosynthesis of COX and LOX, the two most important enzymes involved in inflammation by forming prostaglandins, thromboxanes. 

How to use Triton 0.10% Ointment 15 gm? 

Triton 0.10% Ointment 15 gm is prescribed for inflammatory skin conditions. It can be applied 2-3 times daily with clean hands on dry skin or as prescribed by a doctor. Triton 0.10% Ointment 15 gm is applied in thin even coats and gently rubbed over the affected area. Following steps must be followed for effective application.

  • Wash and gently pat dry your skin before applying the Triton 0.10% Ointment 15 gm. 
  • Take out a small amount of {{product} on fingertips and gently rub it in to form a thin, even coat over the affected area
  • Wash your hands after application (unless dermatitis is affecting your hands), an additional amount can be reapplied if Triton 0.10% Ointment 15 gm gets wiped off from any part.
  •  Triton 0.10% Ointment 15 gm  is applied to the skin two or three times, or as per the doctor’s suggestion, avoid exposure to direct sunlight

Adult Dose

Doses are matched and titrated to the patient’s needs and response to therapy.

A small amount of Triton 0.10% Ointment 15 gm is extruded on the fingertips which should be suffiecient yo cover the affected area. If diseased area is a large 2-3 fingertip units may be used to cover it entirely

Pediatric Dose

Triton 0.10% Ointment 15 gm is not recommended for use in neonates but can be given to children 2 years and above with caution. younger children are prone to side effects such as adrenal suppression even with topical steroids so careful application is mandatory.

Pea-sized amount of Triton 0.10% Ointment 15 gm should be applied or lowest possible effective dose 2-3 times a day

Elderly Dose

Dosage for elderly and adults is usually the same but caution must be exercised while giving Triton 0.10% Ointment 15 gm to elderly (65 years and above) due to health conditions and impact of side effects in this age group

  • Fatigue- Patients experiencing this adverse effect are advised to take deep breaths, intake tea or coffee, get a good night’s rest, and not overburden themselves for a few days.
  • Feeling drowsy – If the medication makes you feel drowsy or sleepy, stop what you’re doing and sit or lie down until you feel better and do not rise too fast or immediately from a sitting or lying down position to a standing posture. Do not drive or use tools or machinery in case of any of these effects.
  • Headaches- In which case make sure you rest and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid the use of alcohol. Take a prescribed painkiller. Consult your doctor if the headaches last longer than a week or are severe
  • Feeling or being sick (nausea or vomiting) or diarrhea –Avoid eating rich or spicy food. It might help to take medication after food. If you’re sick, try drinking small, frequent sips of water. 
  • Muscular Aches And Pains- A hot or cold compress can be placed at the area of discomfort to bring relief; an over-the-counter pain reliever such as paracetamol or ibuprofen can be ingested to bring ease as well. Avoid high-intensity exercise while suffering from muscular pain.
  • Constipation- Can be combated by adding more fibers to the patient’s diet, asking the patient to drink plenty of fluids, and increasing their physical activity to trigger contractions in the intestines.
  • Skin Rash- can be eased by applying soothing and healing lotions or creams such as calamine lotion/cream. Apply a cold compress to the rash to help reduce itchiness and redness caused by the rash. An antihistamine (prescribed by a doctor) is also recommended as an effective way to combat any skin rash.
  • Change in taste- this tends to go away as soon as the patient stops taking the medicine but while treatment; saltwater with baking soda (half a teaspoon of salt and baking soda in water) rinses and chewing on sugar-free gum can help dissipate the change in taste.
  • Blurred vision- this side effect tends to go away on its own if a few days; patients are advised to not operate heavy machinery or drive any motorized vehicles in the meantime.If blurred vision persists, please contact your doctor.
  • Dehydration- Patients are recommended to always care around a water bottle with them wherever they go and periodically keep sipping to prevent thirst and extremely dry mouth. Ice pops in hot weather and energy drinks (verified by the doctor) are helpful in combating dehydration.
  • Soreness at the site of injection- a cold compress can be used for 5 minutes to ease out the soreness.
  • Flu-like symptoms- To manage symptoms, patients are advised to drink plenty of fluids and get plenty of rest and sleep. Take an antihistamine, a nasal decongestant, or a lozenge to feel better when needed.
  • Dryness- apply a moisturizer to the skin and wait for 10-15 minutes after which apply Triton 0.10% Ointment 15 gm onto the skin. This will prevent skin from getting dry and flaky.
  • Redness Of The Skin- This can be combated by applying a cold pack to the affected area.
